Hypnosis therapy & how it can help you

I was going through my writing archives and came across an interview I did from over a decade ago about hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is one of the methods I stiill use to create fast, lasting and positive changes and results for my clients. So I thought it would be a good idea to publish it to give you more knowledge and insights into how hypnosis therapy works.

Here is the interview below:

Interviewer: We’re here today with Stephen Travers of Advanced Hypnotherapy Dublin.  In todays interview we will be focusing on hypnosis therapy and how it can help you to achieve your personal goals.

Interviewer: Hi Stephen thank you for joining us. First of all before we go into speaking about hypnotherapy. Could you tell us a little about yourself and your background?

Stephen: Yes I’m a Certified Hypnotherapist and I’m a member of the Institute Of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Ireland.

Why I became a Hypnotherapist

I’ve trained with the  many pioneers in the field of hypnotherapy. People such as Dr Joseph Keaney, Paul McKenna & Richard Bandler to name but a few. I enjoy learning about personal development as it is one of those fields that is constantly changing and evolving. I use leading edge psychological techniques with the people I work with to help achieve the best results possible for them.

Interviewer: How would you describe hypnotherapy and what would be the specifics of the advanced clinical hypnotherapy?

Stephen:  Yes, well, first of all, let me tell you what hypnosis is not. Lots of people think hypnosis is sleep. But you don’t actually fall asleep under hypnosis. It’s just like daydreaming, like a meditation. The difference is it’s more directive and solution-focused process and approach. So when people are in that trance-like daydream state, we focus on resolving their issues. For example like stop smoking, weight loss, confidence, trauma, phobias, stress or anxiety etc.

When you’re going through hypnotherapy you are often in a pleasant relaxed trance-like state. Hypnosis is a guided process lead by the therapist. We use specific techniques to help you to imagine certain things and give you positive solution-focused ideas and suggestions to communicate with your unconscious mind. We work on specific issues or problems that you want to get resolved.

Interviewer: And would there be any reason why you should be nervous about going to see a hypnotherapist?

Stephen: Not at all, you should look forward to it because it’s a chance to relax, unwind and obviously if you have an issue or a problem the aim is to resolve it.

What can Hypnosis Therapy help you with?

Interviewer: Is there a specific kind of client that would come to you, or what would be the most common reason?

Stephen: Yes one of the main reasons why people come is often to stop smoking and for weight loss. Sometimes people also come in for confidence issues, including phobias, anxieties, trauma, unwanted habits, behaviors, fears and personal development work. People who want to achieve specific goals in their lives, be it in their health, business or relationships. So it can be quite wide and varied with what we can use hypnosis on to help people.

Below are some of the issues that hypnosis therapy can help you with:

  • Panic Attacks, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Distressful Memories,
  • Hypnotherapy for anxiety & stress.
  • Weight Loss/ Overcoming Emotional Eating, Cravings and Compulsions.
  • Social Anxiety, Fear Public Speaking,
  • Self Image & Confidence problems.
  • Fears & Phobias.
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Chronic Pain caused by trauma.
  • Addictions & substance abuse
  • Stop smoking
  • Sports and peak performance

hypnosis therapy

Interviewer: And would you specialize in any particular area with regards to the Advanced Hypnotherapy?

Stephen: Yes we do specialize. We work alot with people who want to stop smoking or lose weight.

For example our stop smoking is a two hour session. We also use various cutting-edge psychological techniques in that session along with hypnosis therapy. That’s what makes us different from most of the conventional therapies out there. The main goal to help people achieve fast, effective, positive results.

What do you experience in Hypnosis?

Interviewer: What actually happens in a hypnosis therapy session?

In hypnotherapy sessions you will often close your eyes and relax into a trance like mediative state. The hypnotherapist then gives you many positive suggestions alligned to the outcomes you want to achieve.

We also do consultation first at start. This is a history intake where we pinpoint and identify what the problem areas are and what is causing them. Then we use various advanced psychological techniques combined with hypnosis to help you resolve these issues,

The way it works with stop smoking is that we only work with people who are at a stage where they really want to stop smoking for the rest of their lives. We only work with people who genuinely want to stop and who are committed and determined to do so.

How to get a phone consultation

Interviewer: And would people necessarily have to travel to Dublin to see you or would you be available to travel to other parts of the country if necessary?

Stephen: Yes well, because we’re so busy and it is primarily in Dublin, I simply don’t have much time to travel around the country. So the answer to that question is yes it’s in Dublin. My email is [email protected] and anyone is welcome to email me for a phone consultation.

Call 086 178 6809 or email [email protected] with your name and number for a free 15 minute phone consultation

Interviewer: And can I just ask you how did you get into the advanced clinical hypnotherapy, as opposed to just hypnotherapy? What was it the made you decide to go down that route?

Stephen:  The reason is I like to to use other leading edge psychological techniques with hypnosis, such as Neuro Linguistic Programming, Havening Techniques and Thought Field therapy as they can produce highly effective fast and lasting results.
