The Tipping Point Effect

There is a phenomena which I have coined the tipping point effect when it comes to sustaining lasting, positive changes in our lives. When implementing almost all new habits of thinking, emotional states and behavior it can feel uncomfortable, overwhelming and challenging at times, especially at the beginning.

However as we persist it often becomes easier to the point where we don’t struggle or even think about it anymore, we are just doing. It becomes habituated and automatic. That is the tipping point effect taking hold.

As we become unconsciously competent and are compelled to live a better life, it feels more natural, easy and comfortable to be the person we know we can be. As a coaching friend of mine says, ‘Practice Makes Permanent’

For example, if you quit smoking it may take a few weeks or months to get used to being smoke free to a point where you don’t even think about it anymore.

When losing weight it may take a while to lose a few stone, but once the new healthy eating patterns are established they can last a lifetime.

It can be the same with feeling confidence and achieving our goals. You may not feel instantly super confident overnight. But as you get clear on what you value and want, take positive action towards your goals and have some successes along the way, you’re self belief builds and your capacity to achieve even bigger and better things grows and expands. Even if there are setbacks you become more resilient, determined and committed to keep moving forward. And in the process becoming the best version of you.

The tipping point effect means that your mindset,  brain chemistry and behaviours have positively changed so much that even if you tried to go back to your old ways of thinking, being and behaving that you wouldn’t want to.

In fact even if you tried to regress it would be very difficult to impossible to do so because you have transformed so much. This is the beauty and reward of the tipping point effect!
